I am an organised individual who enjoys being a positive role model in children's lives. I enjoy helping children learn and understand the subject material and develop positive skills that they can use throughout their education in later years. Through my previous experience as a tutor, I have developed different ways to explain concepts that make it easier for me to adapt to different children and their needs.
The basic job of a tutor is to invoke a liking for the subjects and show the light to take it to the next level in an easy and comfortable way.
I believe I am equipped with strong communication skills in the English language, both oral and written. I am seeking to help students learn and share my enthusiasm for mastering the technique of effective learning.
I am currently in my final year studying Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), majoring in Civil Engineering. I have discovered a passion for learning and a flair for assisting others to become lifelong learners, which I plan to develop into a career in teaching. I am personable, approachable and very patient. I observe and use open questioning to guide my students towards finding the solution. I have an adaptable approach to providing tuition, being able to find innovative approaches and different strategies to subject areas to cater for my student’s individual learning needs and capabilities.
Knowledge gained from education and learning is a life long process which can never be replaced: “Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” - Gandhi
I am a qualified and experienced ESL and Spanish teacher. I have been teaching for over 15 years to both children and adults of all ages both here in Australia and Europe (Spain). I am dedicated and hardworking; my classes are dynamic and enjoyable having had great success amongst students.
Motivation and capabilities: I would like to help students improve their knowledge of maths and science. I'm comfortable helping with a range of subjects from primary and high school maths, science and biology through to university level maths, statistics and engineering. While completing textbook exercises is beneficial I also see a lot of value in considering real world examples and developing critical thinking skills which will help throughout your life. Some students aren't wired towards the sciences and while their strengths are elsewhere, that doesn't mean that we can't improve with some patience and hard work. After all you need maths of varying levels in everyday life. My experience and qualifications: I'm 29 years old, a qualified chemical engineer and hold a masters degree in petroleum engineering, both from the University of Queensland. I've previously tutored undergraduate university courses in a group setting helping students work through problems and answering questions. While I don't have formal teaching qualifications, after studying for the best part of my life I have experienced a wide range of the different teaching styles first hand and, from my own experience know what can be effective. Notwithstanding this, I understand that different approaches may still be required as there are many different learning styles. Location and availability: I live in the eastern suburbs and happy to travel to a home or library. After work hours are best and weekends if required.
The reasons for my interest in tutoring are to share my knowledge and experience with students for them to improve their grades and understand the fundamental concepts of Mathematics. My strengths include ability to work with struggling students, having proven experience in improving results through tutoring, excellent written and oral communication skills, being pleasant and helpful in discussions; as well as being clear and concise. Tutoring is one of my passions!
In addition to a BA and MA in History, I hold a PhD from the University of New South Wales. I am qualified to tutor in Australian, British, US, German, and Economic History. I am also able to assist students with English Grammar, Composition and Comprehension, having completed a minor in English Literature as part of my first degree. Prior to commencing with Grace Simpkins, I tutored university undergraduates on an informal basis and helped my young relatives to prepare for the NSW Higher School Certificate.
