I am a registered teacher with Queensland Education and Training. I have 32 years teaching experience in both secondary and primary schools in England and Australia. My teaching focus during these years has been English and Literacy in the secondary sector but in recent years I have been working in primary schools, adding maths to my main teaching subjects. When tutoring I like to get to know my students, what they are confident about and where they see their weaknesses and use this as my starting point. From there we can build on the areas they feel secure, boosting their confidence and move onto the areas that are causing some concern. I tailor the tutoring sessions to the needs of each individual student so feedback from them and their guardians is a great help in preparing their own personal learning programme. I have tutored students in preparing for NAPLAN and QCAT exams, private school entry exams, specific assignment focus areas and general topping up of basic skills in literacy and numeracy. I have also tutored adults who felt the need to top up their basic skills! Confidence in literacy and numeracy is the key to success in other subjects and I enjoy seeing my students flourish after overcoming difficulties in these areas.
My name is Angela and I'm very passionate about learning. My passion is in the area of literacy and reading, as it is the most vital ingredient, and the first step, in pursing whatever you wish to do in life. I also love learning for the sake of learning and taking an interest in finding out about our world. I hope to pass this onto others. My experience tutoring so far has been with Indigenous students through my university. I also have TESOL teaching qualifications which gave me some tools on lesson planning and learning activities that can be used to make things more fun or interesting. I work with children in a volunteer capacity also, and enjoy helping them to discover their capabilities.
I finished year 12 in 2011 and am currently in my second year of my Bachelor of Primary Education at the University of the Sunshine Coast. I have always enjoyed helping other students achieve their academic goals and my recent completion of high school means my knowledge and experiences are fresh and ready to share with current students. I have experience in the classroom through my practical education assessment last year and through unpaid volunteer work in schools. I am also a current holder of a blue card concerning child related employment.
I am a fully qualified and registered QLD teacher with a special interest in special needs students. My goal is to foster a love of learning and to support students in attaining academic excellence.
I taught at primary schools in Warwick and Stanthorpe, secondary schools in Maryborough, Dalby and Bundaberg, and was Secondary Deputy Principal at Childers and Nambour. When asked 'what did you teach?' I reply 'children'; and when asked 'what subjects?', I reply 'how to learn'. To me, this is the most important aim for which teachers should aspire. I completed my tertiary qualifications as an external student of the University of Queensland, receiving Certificate in Education on 26 April 1968, and Bachelor of Economics on 18 April 1974. Since retirement, I performed voluntary assistance in classes at Suncoast Christian College in 2010 and 2011. Over the past two years, the parents of students I have tutored have reported a noticeable improvement in school results for their children.
My name is Cassie and I am currently studying Primary Education at the University of Sunshine Coast. I am passionate about assisting students to reach their academic potential and am a caring person. I provide a refreshing style of teaching while maintaining a mature and responsible approach towards my students. I have assisted in a classroom setting before and due to my studies am familiar with the Australian Curriculum.
I take pride in sharing my knowledge and skills as well as being able to give constructive feedback. I have a number of skills that enable me to be a valuable tutor - I know about current curriculum and have a professional approach to all my sessions. In addition to my practical education placements, I have volunteered in many schools with children from P- 7 and have also worked within disability services. I cater for diverse learners and create a learning environment conducive to your child's learning style. I feel confident teaching children of any age and background.
